چکیده

Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety stimulating vagus nerve in patients with disorders consciousness (DOCs). Methods A comprehensive systematic review was conducted, encompassing search databases such as PubMed, CENTRAL, EMBASE PEDro from their inception until July 2023. Additionally, manual searches exploration grey literature were performed. conducted independently by two reviewers for strategy, selection studies, data extraction, judgment evidence quality according American Academy Cerebral Palsy Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) Study Quality Scale. Results total 1,269 articles retrieved, 10 studies met inclusion criteria. Among these, there three case reports, five series, only randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Preliminary have suggested that stimulation can enhance levels DOCs both vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness state (VS/UWS) minimally conscious (MCS). However, due a lack high-quality RCTs research evidence-based medical evidence, no definitive conclusion be drawn regarding intervention’s effectiveness on level. significant adverse effects observed following nerve. Conclusion cannot limited number eligible low-quality evidence. findings serve roadmap future use facilitate recovery DOCs.

Vagus nerve stimulation for epilepsy: a review

Vagus nerve stimulation is an empirically based method for treatment of epilepsy by repeated stimulation of the left vagus nerve through implanted electrodes. Despite studies in animals and man, which show changes in brain electrophysiology, metabolism and neurochemistry, the mode of action remains unknown. Clinical testing has presented methodological challenges, as it is difficult to assess u...
